We bought our boat at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, completed sailing courses here, used the famous boatyard and chandlery, and have returned several times. It's one of the best-known marinas on the River Orwell, with a reputation for outstanding facilities and one of the UK's premier boatyards. Suffolk Yacht Harbour is, without doubt, one of the nicest marinas we've visited.
The facilities are exceptional, the boatyard is enormous, the chandlery is one of the best stocked we've come across, and the whole marina has a polished, professional feel. It's easy to understand why so many East Coast sailors recommend it.
The location is another huge selling point. Sitting on the beautiful River Orwell, surrounded by peaceful Suffolk countryside, it's hard to imagine a prettier place to own a boat. Whether you're sailing to Pin Mill, enjoying lunch in the marina café or simply watching boats come and go, it's a wonderful place to spend time.
It's definitely one of the more expensive marinas in the area, transport links aren't amazing without a car, and surprisingly, I actually preferred the sturdier pontoons at Beacon Marina. They're by no means poor, but they didn't feel quite as solid as I expected from such a premium marina. Even so, if you're looking for one of the best-equipped marinas in Suffolk, it's very difficult to fault.

Why We Chose Suffolk Yacht Harbour
Our connection with Suffolk Yacht Harbour goes back to the day we bought Silva Nova.
We purchased our boat through one of the on-site brokerages while she was stored in the boatyard, and since then we've returned several times for chandlery supplies, sailing courses at East Anglia Sea School and various boatyard services. Rather than simply stopping overnight on a visitor berth, we've had the opportunity to experience many different parts of the marina.
What We Paid
Suffolk Yacht Harbour isn't a budget marina, but it's very much a case of getting what you pay for. At the time of writing (2026), annual pontoon berths cost £421 per metre (plus VAT), which includes hardstanding.Other notable charges include:

Facilities
This is where Suffolk Yacht Harbour really shines. I'd been told before visiting that the shower block was one of the best on the East Coast. Honestly... I believe it. The facilities are spotless, modern and genuinely luxurious by marina standards. The shower cubicles even have heated seats, which feels wonderfully indulgent.

The on-site café and lighthouse pub/restaraunt deserve a mention too. They aren't cheap, but the food is great.

The Chandlery
The chandlery deserves its own section because it's genuinely one of the best we've visited. We needed some rather unusual teardrop rudder anodes that we'd struggled to find elsewhere. Although they weren't in stock, the staff immediately found them in their catalogue, ordered them overnight and had them ready for us the following day. Better still, they were surprisingly reasonably priced. Looking back, we should have bought several sets because we've struggled to find replacements anywhere else since! That sort of service makes a huge difference when you're trying to keep an older boat maintained.
Boatyard & Training
Suffolk Yacht Harbour has one of the largest boatyards on the East Coast, and it's easy to see why it has such a strong reputation. Whether you're hauling out for maintenance, buying a boat through one of the brokerages or arranging specialist work, everything feels incredibly well organised.
I also completed a couple of courses with East Anglia Sea School, which is based on site. The instructors were excellent, and having training available within the marina is another reason Suffolk Yacht Harbour feels more like a complete boating centre than simply somewhere to keep your boat.
Location
The setting is absolutely beautiful. Suffolk Yacht Harbour sits on the banks of the River Orwell, surrounded by rolling Suffolk countryside and some of the prettiest scenery on the East Coast. From the marina you can easily sail to the famous Butt & Oyster at Pin Mill, explore peaceful woodland paths, or simply enjoy watching yachts sail by. Although many people arrive by car, we actually travelled there from Ipswich by bus several times. There's a little walking involved, but it's a lovely route through the countryside and perfectly manageable if you don't mind stretching your legs.
Security
Unlike some marinas, Suffolk Yacht Harbour doesn't have gated pontoons or particularly restrictive access. That said, it's a busy, well-managed marina with plenty of staff and constant activity throughout the day, and we never felt uncomfortable during our visits.

Would We Stay Again?
Absolutely. If we were looking for a marina based purely on quality, Suffolk Yacht Harbour would be right near the top of our list. The facilities are excellent, the setting is beautiful and everything you could possibly need as a boat owner is available on site. The only real downside is the cost, but if your budget allows, it's easy to understand why so many people rate it so highly.
Final Thoughts
If you're looking for one of the best marinas in Suffolk, Suffolk Yacht Harbour is difficult to beat. It's certainly not the cheapest marina on the East Coast, but the combination of first-class facilities, one of the UK's best boatyards, an outstanding chandlery and a stunning River Orwell location make it feel worth the premium. Whether you're buying a boat, arranging a haul out, taking sailing courses or simply looking for a high-quality berth, Suffolk Yacht Harbour delivers an experience that's hard to fault. It's one of those places that reminds you why so many people fall in love with boating on the East Coast.
